Politics and the Church – The Church v. the Angel of Light [Part 36]

I doubt that anyone will argue…conservative, liberal, progressive, digressive, etc…that our planet is a ‘beautiful gift’ worthy of care.  It has cared for us through even the misuse we have showered it with.  We have been given assets to sustain life, improve life, and share life with all living beings.  Sage use of these assets are a must.  The problem being that we have so many viewpoints on how that is to be done without causing permanent damage.  Unfortunately there are those who concentrate exclusively on protecting these assets while forgetting that the assets are there for us to use wisely.  When man becomes involved, sometimes the word “wisely” can be misconstrued.

There are endless examples of where man attempted to stop progress in the name of ‘environmentalism’.  The goal was well conceived but short sighted.  Here are just a couple of the many examples:

–   The Keystone pipeline is an oil pipeline system between Canada and the United States.  The oil was placed there for man’s use.  It was not placed there by man but by the Creator.  It was held up by a well-intended liberal government for years because it was believed it would undercut United States leadership on reducing carbon emissions. The administration placed America’s needs and priorities second to other countries.  It kept the US dependent on Middle East oil and the military involvement therein.  It took a conservative administration to grant permits and the pipeline was built.  So now we can burn ‘American’ oil vice Middle East oil.

–   Another example was the Braken Bat Cave spider that stopped a $15 million Texas highway construction project.  The spider was more important than progress and enhancing the lives of people by reducing traffic.  It is estimated that more than 99% of all species that ever lived on Earth are now extinct. Everything lives and dies and a new species is born.  That is life on this planet.  To put animals…such as spiders…above humans is putting your cat or dog above you.

One liberal solution to the so-called climate crisis is…believe it or not…micro-houses.  It is the ‘tiny house’ movement.  Liberals believe in these tiny homes to save the environment.  Tiny homes with very little space use less energy which is true.  Studies show that there are higher rates of stress, substance abuse, and domestic violence linked to tight living quarters.  I might believe the liberal campaign when their leadership moves out of their mansions and turns their spacious lawns into lots for tiny homes…living in one themselves, of course.  Is there any hypocrisy here?  Tiny homes may be an answer to affordable housing but certainly not to a climate crisis.

Then we have another idea from the liberal platform to combat the ‘climate crises’.  The idea…legislate fuel efficient cars.  Sounds like a good idea until the details are investigated.  These cars are very small.  The problem with these tiny cars…they are very unsafe.  In 2012 the liberal administration finalized standards increasing fuel economy to the equivalent of 54.5 mpg for cars and light duty trucks by the model year 2025.  Sounds great!  Kind of like winning the lottery.  But it is not great.  It gives priority to high mileage vehicles over the safety of you and your family.  Would you and your family want to be in a ‘smart car’ when it is hit by an 18-wheeler?  The platform does not favor drilling for oil in the Arctic (an area of vast nothingness), because it might hurt a caribou.  But it is OK if you have to drive a car so small that if you get into an accident, it will injure or kill you and your family.  There’s lots of people but the caribou population is limited.  This is once again placing animals above the lives of people.  When an administration with common sense got into office those mileage rules were reversed…which of course very much irritated the liberals.

How does liberal leadership respond to the policies they propose to inflict on us ‘commoners’?  They respond by living in big houses, drive big SUV’s, or even better travel in private gas guzzling aircraft.  They even use such transportation to show up at ‘climate change’ gatherings.  Liberal icons such as Barbara Streisand, Al Gore, Leo DiCaprio, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, and many of our current politicians do not live in ‘tiny houses’, but large mansions where the monthly electric bills are the equivalent to an average person’s…peon…mortgage payment.  And many have more than one mansion.  They are a ‘picture’ of what the dictionary would define as hypocrites.

But then again the liberals will attempt to twist the Word of God.  They take what God means for good and pervert it.  Environmentalism is no different.  It is idolatry of the earth.  Replacing the earth as a god.  The earth is not to be worshiped. God is to be worshiped.  The Bible says, “Then God blessed them, and God said to them,’Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” [Genesis 1:28].

The Bible says that humans are to subdue the earth and have dominion over every living thing.  ‘Subdue’ means to bring under subjection.  The earth is to be under the subjection of humans and not the other way around.  ‘Dominion’ means to have authority over.  The Bible says humans have authority over every living thing.  Liberal policies put humans under the authority and subjection of the earth.

The earth is a gift from God…of course for those who do not believe in God that means nothing.  The Bible says, ” The Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” [Genesis 2:15].

The Bible says that the earth is to be cared for by us.  We are accountable to God for how we use it.  God did not tell Adam to worship the earth.  He did not tell Adam to exploit the earth or treat it recklessly, but to watch over it and use it wisely.  We are to work and care for the earth, but not let it rule over us.  To the liberal platform the earth is overpopulated…maybe thus a favoritism for human abortion…and a plan is needed to save the earth’s resources.  God had and has a plan for the earth.  His plan is perfect.  Man’s plan has been and is flawed with false assumptions and wasted efforts.  Personally, I vote for God’s plan.  Might not this subject occasionally be discussed from the pulpit?  Let’s face it, if we leave the discussion up to man alone we know where it is going.

Next week we well look into a subject that has been much the center of debate within the halls of Washington…and around the country for that matter.  The subject is ‘sanctuary cities’.  Contrary to the beliefs of many liberals, the Bible has a stance on this subject.  We will look at that stance and how the angel of light tries to twist it.
