Before we start this week’s discussion on homosexuality and gay marriage, let us look briefly at the nature of love…love as displayed by God for His creations…not the ‘love’ being twisted by the angel of light. ‘Love’ is well described by Dr. Paul T. Evans in his book “The Forgotten Commandment“. The potential for emotional fulfillment rises when active Christian fellowship involves loving and being loved properly. God’s command to love one another then actually provides great benefits for our lives. “Agape” is the Greek word for the highest form of love and is often attributed to God. This is the kind of love that God has for mankind. It is ‘sacrificial’, ‘faith-filled’, ‘sees what others cannot see’, and is ‘unending’. Yet there is another important description. God’s love sets boundaries. In scriptures God’s boundaries do not allow people to do whatever they want, without consequences. Some will be separated from God for all eternity, facing His judgment without the benefit of the blood of Jesus applied to their lives. Love is more than activity. It is too easy to substitute activities for love and masquerade ourselves even to the point of complete self-deception.
Today the angel of light has made an appearance into our society trying to add to that self-deception. And once again his argument sounds perfectly logical and caring but carries a message that is anti-Biblical. So professed there is nothing wrong with two people in love with each other even if they are of the same sex. Love is beautiful. It should be legal for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals to marry to ensure equal rights for all, or so the angel of light teaches. Sounds compassionate! But what is Satan’s real goal? The destruction of the family and ultimately society, because if you destroy the family, you destroy society. Several months ago I wrote about the destructive impact on lives…especially young lives…by the destruction of the family.
What does the Bible say about such activities?
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” [Leviticus 18:22].
“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” [1 Corinthians 6:9].
The liberal platform believes happiness can be achieved by chasing selfish immoral desires of the flesh. It is a lie from Satan tempting us with the lust of the flesh to be disobedient to the Word of God. Chasing desires of the flesh will not bring happiness. It will only lead to sorrow, regret, heartache, and destruction. The world says you are to be judged by how pretty your wife is or how handsome your husband is, how nice is the car you drive, how luxurious is the home you live in, and how much money do you make? It is such lusts…goals…that can lead down the path of emptiness, stress, financial problems, and wasted time.
The liberal platform is in support of homosexuality and gay marriage…both positions are not Biblical. The platform professes that it is the right of every person to have a consensual sexual relationship with anyone they choose. They consider that to be ‘love’. The platform calls it discrimination if two people of the same sex cannot marry. And they do not stop there. If you express a Biblical view in opposition to what their platform professes, you are labeled a homophobe. That is a person who hates or is afraid of homosexuals or treats them badly. Better a ‘homophobe’ than a lost sinner. And by the way, homosexuals are not to be hated but pitied. They are on their way to hell if they are not brought into the light.
As might be expected, those agents of the angel of light have something to say that sounds humanitarian but is from the pit of hell.
– A former liberal president in reference to gay marriage said “Love is love”.
– A Hollywood icon on accepting an Oscar for his portrayal of a gay rights activist stated,”I think that it is a good time for those who voted for the ban against gay marriage to sit and reflect and anticipate their great shame and the shame in their grandchildren’s eyes if they continue that way of support.” This ‘Hollywood spokesperson’ maybe needs to sit and think about eternity in damnation.
– Then we have that great bastion of liberty spokeswoman who continually uses her ‘religion’…from who knows what ‘bible’…to justify her political positions. She, on gay marriage, says,”My religion has, compels me…and I love it for it…to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider [the ban on gay marriage] a form of discrimination”. This is how the angel of light has twisted her thinking.
Contrary to what liberals and progressives say, Christians are not homophobes. Christians are to “love the sinner, hate the sin”. God loves us all and it distresses Him when we blatantly ‘thumb our noses’ at the principles for Christian living that He has given us. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved,” [John 3:16-17]. God wants us to turn from our sin. Christians are to love everyone and it is the reason they want people to turn from sin. If Christians hated homosexuals, they would tell them to keep on sinning…which is exactly what the liberal platform does. God says that homosexuality is sin!
The Bible calls homosexuality an abomination. It means offensive or opposing to the things of God. If you support something that God opposes, you are against the will of God. You are saying, “God, you are wrong. and I am smarter than you.” That is arrogant and prideful. Satan was cast from Heaven for pride. When you believe you are right, and God is wrong, you are elevating yourself above God. As Joel Osteen said,”Don’t put a question mark where God put a period.” As we have read, homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God (heaven). Homosexuality is a sin and yes, we are all sinners. However, we are to turn from our sin and repent, not endorse it. There is a vast difference between committing sin and repenting and the continual non-repentance endorsement of sin. If you are going to endorse homosexuality, you may as well endorse fornication, idolatry, adultery, sodomy, stealing, drunkenness, extortion, abuse, etc. When you support or endorse sin, there is no repentance. It is saying that sin is OK. Supporting gay marriage is an endorsement of homosexuality (sin) and endorsing is the opposite of repentance. The Bible says, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” [Acts 3:19]. What better subject to be pointed out from the pulpit? What a way to anger the angel of light!! A person who lives in and supports sin cannot be a leader in God’s Church and any church that allows it is endorsing sin.
Next week we will continue to look at how the angel of light will fight those who take a stand against abomination. Sometimes it’s only by angering the ‘enemy’ that we can know we have hit a conscious nerve.
