Politics and the Church – The Church v. the Angel of Light [Part 32]

In the eyes of the liberal…angel of light…”America First” is racist and divisive.  American unilateralism is putting world economic growth at risk and alienates American allies.  It leaves America isolated and disadvantaged in the world.  But what is the real goal of those who would denigrate the desire to keep America first?  Could it be to weaken or destroy a country founded on Christian principles; enable and become partners with discrimination, bondage, evil and tyranny?  What about trying to assist other countries that mean harm to America?  America is our ‘house’.  What does the Bible say? “One who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)” [1 Timothy 3:4}.

“America First” is a reference to putting America’s priorities as a country over foreign countries and putting the needs of American citizens above non-citizens.  I would hope that the leadership of each nation would want to look out for the best for their nation.  Liberals created much controversy about the slogan “America First” who said it was racist, divisive and alienates America from allies.  This accusation coming from a liberal platform that survives on identity politics!

On face value, putting your own country over other foreign countries is common sense.  Maybe that is why the liberal platform has such a time with it.  Placing your country first does not mean completely alienating your allies.  Shouldn’t you shelter and feed your own family before you feed someone else’s family?  Would it not be illogical for your family to live in a homeless shelter while you pay the expenses for another family to live in a home?  You place your own family’s needs above your neighbors, yet they are still your friends.  The Christian friends that I now have I can count on dearly, yet I place my family above them.  I would not expect them to place me above their families.  It would be disrespectful, inappropriate, and an insult to my family to place my neighbor’s family above my own…and vice versa.

There are some countries that are neutral to the United States that jail people for political speech, deny women basic rights, engage in ethnic cleansing, and will put you to death or imprison you for preaching the Gospel.  I have always been tempted to offer someone with a’COEXIST’ bumper sticker the opportunity to take a dozen Bibles to Saudi Arabia along with a one-way airline ticket.  At the arrival airport they can try to hand out the Bibles.  The one-way ticket will be all they need. The Bible tells us to preach the Gospel to every creature.  Are we to put these countries needs ahead of our own?  To place those countries in importance ahead of our own is foolishness, supporting evil, and is a recipe for destruction of our own country.  The Bible says we are to not have any relationship with evil and we should expose it.  The Bible says, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” [Ephesians 5:11].

The definition of fellowship is company of equals or friends.  We should have no companionship with those who are engaged in evil and we should expose it.  This is just the opposite of what the liberal agenda proposes when they come up against an “America First” agenda.  They are saying befriend, help, and financially support other countries above America, even those committing atrocities, genocide, or engaging in human rights abuses.  It is a responsibility of our president and congress to make sure that such support is not provided.

The Bible says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” [2 Corinthians 5:17].  We are not to be unequally yoked in anything that we do.  We cannot profess one set of principles and then live by another set.  We cannot in all good conscience support governments that are anti-God and pro-Satan…and those governments do exist.  We also, cannot rest comfortably our self-assessment of righteousness and condemn others.  What would be the nature of the world today had the United States aligned itself with Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union?  As citizens we have an obligation to maintain the principles that were used to found this nation.  When we get away from those principles we can no longer be justified in “America First”.

To argue against “America First” the liberal agenda cite the scriptures “Love your neighbor as yourself” , or “help the least of these” or point to the parable of the Good Samaritan.  These scriptures are instructions for how Christians treat others. We are to do these things as Christians, but before we do these things we have to care for our own families.  There is nothing in these scriptures about placing other countries above your own or other families above your own.  The Bible is specific that you take care of your own family first.  The Bible says there must be order in your own home first before you can serve in the church.  Anyone who wants to serve in the church, their household must first be in order. Again, the Bible says, “one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)”  [1 Timothy 3:4].

America first is Biblical!!  No wonder the angel of light takes such a stand against it.

Next week we will look at how the angel of light has so twisted the word ‘love’ that abomination is now an affirmation of God’s will.  We will look at homosexuality and gay marriage.
