Politics and the Church – The Church v. the Angel of Light [Part 9]

This week we will start another aspect where Satan appears as the “Angel of Light’…the legalization of marijuana and other mind-altering drugs.  So how is this going to be done in a perfectly logical…according to man…manner? Let’s see: Legalization of ‘recreational’ marijuana has beneficial effects and is a source of tax revenue and jobs.  Alcohol is legal and marijuana is better than alcohol.  Recreation is good for the human spirit so how can something that contributes to recreation be bad?  And of course when money…tax revenue…is thrown into the picture, man’s attention turns to the root of all evil.  And how can anyone argue with more jobs being made available?  And of course there’s the old ‘better than’ comparison…one rotten apple is better than another rotten apple.  In a recent example we see where the “For the People” lawyer sold medical marijuana to the state of Florida as a compassionate act.  That’s the way the ‘angel of light’ works.  Now that very same “For the People” lawyer wants to legalize ‘recreational’ marijuana.  Could it be that the potential for an increased number of legal cases involving drug intoxication or the money to be made in such a cash crop is a motivating factor?  Has “For the People” morphed into “For the Wallet”?  Is ‘compassion’ now surrounded with $$$ ?  The ‘angel of light’ at work!

But then what is Satan’s real goal in this move to legalize another harm to society?  Could it be to destroy your mind and body or even kill you?  In the least it could be to steal from you, leave you homeless, imprisoned or render you useless in the kingdom of God.  Just recently, government has made it legal to hand out ‘clean needles’ to ‘help’ the health of drug addicts.  I wonder who is paying for those clean needles?  ‘How can I be so lacking in understanding and compassion’ Satan would want you to ask?  Here’s what the Bible has to say: “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.  For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” [1 Corinthians 3:16-17].

Liberals support mind-altering drugs that destroy and take lives.  The testimony of those who use or sell drugs for any extended period is that you will end up homeless, in prison, or dead. There is nothing to be gained by the legalization of any drug for recreational use.  The liberals have several reasons to argue in support of the recreational use of marijuana.  We will examine just a few.

The majority of the public are in favor of legalization, or so liberals say.  I do not know what their source of information is.  There have been many activities in America that at one time were supported by a majority of people and declared legal.  Those activities are now considered not only illegal, but immoral.  Some of the obvious ones are slavery, a woman’s right to vote, and discrimination against people of color.  The legalization argument, because majority supports something, is fraudulent.  Using this logic, if a majority of people support putting to death all individuals with a disability, then would it be legal and moral to do so. We have done just that with the unborn.  Drugs have become acceptable and almost commonplace in society today…just read the crime reports in the daily newspapers…but it does not mean it is acceptable in the eyes of God.  It is the reason that God gave us His Word.  The Bible tells us not to conform to the world.  Conform means to act in accordance with prevailing standards or customs.  The Bible says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” [Romans 12:1-2].  We are to do what is good, pleasing, and acceptable to Him.  I doubt that purposefully destroying our bodies falls into that category.

As you might guess this liberal platform revolves around money…marijuana being illegal is too expensive to our justice system.  So I guess now that justice and laws must include costs.  I surely hope murder and armed robbery doesn’t get too expensive to bother with.  This is another fraudulent argument.  It ignores that there are other remedies for marijuana possession than placing offenders in jail.  The penalty for possession of illegal drugs can be a ticket (fine) and mandatory counselling at violator’s expense rather than imprisonment.  The penalty for dealing drugs can be imprisonment.  Drug dealing is probably one of the most heinous crimes in today’s society, responsible for more deaths and ruined lives than any other crime.  Do we want to become a society where the government is saying that marijuana is OK?  Because it is illegal many will not even experiment with it.  Take away that barrier and “Katie bar the door”.

And again the enticement of money supports another liberal platform…marijuana is potentially a new source of revenue and jobs.  This is an absurdity.  Giving a wasteful, overspending government more money is the equivalent of giving drug addicts more drugs and saying it is good for them.  Government spending more is a way for the government to entrap more people on handouts and dependence.  Want an example?  Take a look at the streets of New York City, Los Angeles, or Seattle to sample just a piece of the problems drug addiction creates.

Their next argument is based on God’s creations…marijuana is a natural plant.  What can be wrong in smoking a natural plant?  Well, there is a plant called Coca (Erythroxylum coca), better known as a source of cocaine.  If you are going to use the ‘natural plant’ argument, you would have to use that argument to justify the use of cocaine.  We know how the legalization of tobacco has sent millions to a miserable, early death.  Others are just as deadly.  There is a story of two boys in Texas that were out camping.  They wanted to roast hot dogs over their camp fire.  They cut branches from an oleander bush and roasted their hot dogs.  It killed both of them.  The sap of the ‘natural plant’ oleander will kill a horse…and two boys.  The natural plant argument is just not valid.

Next week we will continue with the arguments the ‘angel of light’ and his liberal minions use to justify rampant drug use.  The arguments start out sounding well intentioned but the goal is anything but.  Certainly this might be an appropriate subject to periodically approach from the pulpit.
