The lies that would justify the legalization of marijuana continue. Many liberals say that marijuana is not a ‘gateway’ drug. For some it is and for others it is not. A young actor, Cory Monteith from Canada, died at the age of 31. Before his death in an interview he said that marijuana was a gateway drug for him as he graduated to heroin. This is not an uncommon claim. Our society doesn’t need another ‘recreational’ drug. Let’s not be fooled. Marijuana is a ‘gateway’ drug that has led many to a life of destruction and eventual early death. We have already experienced the hazards of alcohol and tobacco. Can’t we eventually learn?
Of course the really big compassionate push today is for legalizing marijuana for medical use…an effort that leads the recreational use. As of 2018, more than 30 states have legalized medical marijuana. This started out with meds based on marijuana, then with smoking same being the only effective way to administer it, and then if it relieves the pain of the ill why not use it to put society at ease? This is the way the ‘angel of light’ operates. The argument for medical marijuana is that it helps relieve pain for individuals who are suffering. In this age of medical wonder, for every disease and disorder that marijuana has been recommended to ease, there are alternatives. And of course even some of these will send you to an early grave. For those in the vicinity of a marijuana user, the smoke can affect others who have no desire to be associated with the drug.
It is important that you know the tactics of Satan. There is a well tested phrase, “give them an inch and they will take a mile.” That is exactly what Satan does. The Bible says in Ephesians, “give no place to the devil.” The legalization of drugs such as marijuana…not limited to marijuana only…begins with legalization for medical use. However, what soon follows is legalization for recreational use…i.e. California and Colorado. To get any medical prescription from a doctor, there must be a diagnosed medical condition. A prescription for a medication is specific to that medical condition. If you look at the qualifying list of conditions for medical marijuana, it is pretty much any condition at all…any and all can qualify. To be able to smoke ‘medical’ marijuana in Florida the list of conditions includes…”anxiety, chronic pain/severe pain, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, muscle spasms, post-traumatic stress disorder, severe nausea or any other ailment/condition of the same severity/symptoms, when determined by a physician’s opinion that the medical use of marijuana would surpass any potential health risks.” Basically, if you get headaches, a backache, a stomach ache, are stressed out, have any sort of pain, or anything a doctor determines, you can get a ‘prescription’ to smoke marijuana. “Katie bar the door!”
Once again liberals twist the Word of God and cite the Bible to support their agenda. The Scripture they cite…“And God said, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” [Genesis 1:29]. The Bible says, God gave us every herb, and every tree whose fruit yields seed for food, it does not say for smoking. God always gives us goodness and it is Satan that perverts it. He will take what is meant for good and pervert it to something bad.
The Bible, though, does have something to say about drug use. The Bible does not mention specific drugs by name to avoid. If the Bible did, as new drugs are created people would say, well the Bible does not say you cannot do Molly, Ecstasy, or some new designer drug. Satan is always creating new mind-altering drugs to destroy lives and kill. The Bible does, though, address remaining sober…“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” [1 Peter 5:8]. The Bible says to be sober. The definition of sober is: freedom from intoxication. The Bible also tells us to be vigilant. The definition of vigilant is: to be especially watchful, because Satan is watching to devour (prey upon) you. Drugs that alter the mind, whether they are legal or illegal, are warned against by God. Some Christians have debated on the use of alcohol. Again the Bible warns of insobriety. As a result, it is OK to have a small glass of wine or even a beer if it does not lead to insobriety. Drinking alcohol to intoxication is not OK. A famous pastor Billy Sunday said, “The saloon is a liar. It promises good cheer and sends sorrow.” The Bible says give no place to the devil. It would be wise to avoid alcohol altogether. The Bible says, “Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.” [Proverbs 20:1]. Sin is disobedience to the Word of God and the Bible warns against it. The Bible is a guide for life no matter what society considers legal. Becoming intoxicated or high, can leave you with some very large regrets. How much of today’s criminal activity is the result of intoxication? How many people who usually live a peaceful lifestyle have that lifestyle destroyed by intoxication? This destruction can last a lifetime.
When or if marijuana becomes legal, it is still something to be avoided. It is a mind altering drug. It affects motivation, it impairs learning, judgment, and memory. Marijuana has negative short-term effects, long-term effects and physical effects. Recent studies have found that the brain’s individual sensitivity to THC determines a ‘happy’ outcome or a ‘paranoid high’. It is not yet known what the effects will be on the human brain. In severe cases individuals may experience “schizophrenia-like” symptoms. Remember Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Marijuana impacts the ability to concentrate, which hurts school and work performance, and if concentration is compromised, it will hinder you from reading and understanding the Bible. It also contributes to a loss of interest in activities and interferes with relationships. In the Christian realm, this is called serving and fellowship. Hindering knowledge of the Word of God and hindering serving God, is the goal of Satan. No wonder the liberal platform is in favor of legalization of marijuana.
Next week we will continue looking at how the ‘angel of light’ is trying to hinder service to God and how Satan uses ‘compassion’ to justify his attack on Christianity and the Church.
