Politics and the Church – The Church v. the Angel of Light [Part 8]

America is a nation of laws.  If an elected public official or even a private citizen disagrees with the Constitution, they cannot just arbitrarily change it.  There is a process for amending the Constitution and it is not an easy one.  Our Founding Fathers meant it to be that way.  They established the Republic that way to prevent someone from coming into a political office, abusing their power and changing the foundations of the nation.  They wanted a government decentralized with power given to the people.  Thus it is not easy to change the Second Amendment.  “Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it is not an individual right or that it is too much of a public safety hazard, don’t see the danger in the big picture.  They’re courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the Constitution they don’t like.”  [Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz].

Not to appear counter to the Word of God, liberals will cite Scripture in the Book of Matthew to support their anti-gun position when Jesus says to turn the other cheek.  The Bible says, “You have heard that it was said,’An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’  But I tell you not to resist an evil person.  But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.  If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.  And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.  Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.” [Matthew 5:38-42].  At close investigation this scripture is taken completely out of context relating to gun control.  The scripture does not address the occurrence of someone breaking into a home to murder you and your family.  It is not addressing violent crime. If someone breaks into your home and wants to kill you or your family, you are not told to ‘turn the other cheek’.  You are to take advantage of all options at hand, including using a gun to protect your life and the life of your family.  The Words of God are exact.  You cannot add to it or subtract from it.  The Bible says, “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.” [Deuteronomy 12:32].

Bearing arms for personal protection is Biblical.  Anyone against the right to bear arms is opposing the Word of God.  Before Jesus went to the cross, He instructed His disciples to sell some of their items and buy side arms (swords).  Jesus was referred to by many names in the Bible.  In the Book of Isaiah He is referred to as “the Prince of Peace”, so why would He be advocating the procurement of a weapon?  The Bible says, For unto us a Child is born; And the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” [Isaiah 9:6].  Jesus, the Prince of Peace, said “to love your neighbor as yourself and to love others as He loved.”  He said to “love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you.” Jesus also said to “forgive” those who hurt you.  His entire earthly ministry was about love and forgiveness.  It would go against all that Jesus taught for Him to command His disciples to purchase swords for offensive purposes.  Jesus knew the disciples would suffer persecution and would need to protect themselves while preaching the Gospel.  If possible He told them to flee to another city.  Jesus did not command them to stay and fight.  The Bible says, “And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.  But he who endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in this city, flee to another.  For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” [Matthew 10:22-23].

The arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane gives further evidence the disciples had swords for defensive purposes.  Peter took out his sword and attacked Malchus, the high priest’s servant.  Peter missed the servant’s head but cut off the servant’s ear.  The Bible says, “So Jesus said to Peter, Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”  [John 18:11].  Jesus did not tell Peter to throw his sword away.  “But Jesus said to him, ‘Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.”  [Matthew 26:52a].  It is a clear message that the sword should not be used as an offensive weapon.

Liberals hold rallies and use social media to denounce gun rights and the Second Amendment, all the while, it is these same liberals who have armed bodyguards protecting them when they are out in the public at such events.  The Bible is clear that Jesus told the disciples to purchase swords for self-defense to protect themselves against evil.  Here the liberals are once again in opposition to the Word of God.  They align with Satan in wanting to give the advantage to evil and leave the innocent unarmed and vulnerable.  Criminals will always obtain guns even if they are outlawed and their purpose for obtaining a gun is not defensive, but offensive…to commit crimes. Satan desires to slaughter the innocent whether it is you, your family or an unborn baby.  The liberal platform on the Second Amendment is not Biblical and assists evil that desires to steal, kill and destroy.

Next week we will look at a trend that has found its way into American society with all the ‘smoothness’ the angel of light can project…the legalization of marijuana and other mind-altering drugs.  If depriving an individual of liberty is a goal, this is certainly one way to go about it.  The ‘camel’ is at it again, trying to get his nose under the tent.
