Politics and the Church – The Church and the Liberal / Progressive / Communist Threat [Part 13]

This week we will look at some more of the 45 Communist goals to destroy this nation.  You may notice that thus far none of the goals have included any threat of external military action.  The plan is to let our society destroy itself. One of the best ways to do that is to destroy the foundation on which our nation was built.  We will now look at the communist attack on the Church and the founding document that ensured our religious freedom.  What better elements for the Communists to attack.

#27  Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion.  Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch’.  With personal conduct now reduced to ‘whatever feels good, do it’, the acceptance of worship and obedience to a Supreme Being and striving to live the highest moral standards in one’s personal life have been pushed aside.  One example of religious enlightenment being replaced by social indoctrination include ‘Pastor’ Jeremiah Wright, the expounder of inflammatory rhetoric and pastor to a recent president.  Such pseudo-church organizations and their leadership are serving more as community activist organizations or service centers than communities engaged in the worship of God.  Traditional churches, originally organized as places of self-renewal and improvement, are being diluted into social clubs.  Meanwhile, the Bible has been reduced to an object of historical examination or as a rudimentary collection of ‘tall tales’ rather than the Word of God.  The world suffers accordingly.

#28  Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the grounds that it violates the principle of ‘separation of church and state.’  We see this tactic being used almost daily.  In 1960, Madalyn Murray O’Hair…the poster child for atheism…sued her school over forcing prayer and Bible study on her son, William.  In 1963, the Supreme Court upheld her position, and prayer and Bible-reading were banished from all public schools in America.  Since that ruling, Bible reading and prayer have been sought out and attacked in a multitude of ways, including challenging the display of the Ten Commandments on public facilities…such commandments do not support the Communist agenda, prayers at town council meetings, and Christmas decorations displayed in public buildings.  Following the 1963 ruling, the nation has slowly moved away from religion and the worship of God.  At least 32% of all US adults under age 30 have no religious affiliation.  Since 1990, the number of Americans with no religious affiliation has more than doubled.  According to Pew Research Center, 73% of the religiously unaffiliated support gay marriage, and 72% of the same group support legalized abortion…infant murder.  Just two stepping stones leading toward the erasure of Western culture. [Pew Research Center, Religion & Public Life, “Nones” on the Rise, October 9, 2012].  As for Ms. O’Hair, her ending was brutal.  She amassed millions of dollars for her anti-religion crusade but never got to spend it.  In 1995 she was murdered by a fellow atheist, then dismembered, burned, and buried on a small plot in Texas.  Before then, her son William publicly rejected his mother’s crusade.  By 1980 he had become a Baptist minister and social conservative.  Upon hearing of William’s conversion to Christianity, O’Hair said, “One could call this postnatal abortion…I repudiate him entirely and completely for now and all times.  He is beyond human forgiveness.” [Ted Dracos, UnGodly: The Passions, Torments, and Murder of Atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, Free Press, 2003].

#29  Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, out of step with modern needs, and a hinderance to cooperation between nations on a world-wide basis.  Today many of our politicians are contributing to the achievement of this goal.  Nearly all ‘progressive’ politicians declare the Constitution ‘a living document’ that must change with the times.  By that they mean it must be allowed to evolve and remain changeable like a mound of soft clay that can be sculpted into anything the majority party wants.  That brings to question then, “Which rights protected by the Constitution are now old fashioned?”  Property? Speech? Self-defense? Contracts? Copyrights? Representation? The right to vote politicians into and out of office? Association with whomever one pleases? Free will? The freedom to try, buy, sell and fail? Which of these are out of date?  What about the constitutional structure of government that protects those rights from being usurped by a kingly ruler?  All changes that came from an effort to re-mold the Constitution have shifted political power away from the people and into the fists of their eloquent and persuasive leaders.  Some citizens are starting to wake up to this effort.

#30  Discredit the American founding fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the ‘common man’.  This is not a new effort.  It began with Charles A. Beard and his 1913 book, An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States.  Beard maintained that the American War for Independence was in reality a push by the ‘cohesive elite’ (the Founding Fathers) so they could rule the new nation to feather their own nests.  By 1950 historians had discredited Beard’s assessment, and by the 1960’s, Beard’s Progressive version of the framing of the Constitution had been refuted. [Peter Novick, That Noble Dream, 1988, Page 336].  Today, however, there remains in academia a culture that is antagonistic toward America’s Founders.  Today the Founders are seldom discussed in school and in some instances their portraits have been replaced with those of radical reformers.  A key tenet of socialism is to destroy the memory of the constructive participants of the past to justify the imposition of an elitist class of rulers who ‘know better’ how to rule the people in the future.

#31  Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of ‘the big picture’.  Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.  From disparagement and castigation of Christopher Columbus as the instigator of a brutal conquest, to removing American Founders and heroes from school curricula so other cultures are not offended, evidence abounds that Goal #31 has been accomplished.  Textbook bias is an ongoing problem in America.  Other forms of minimizing American culture has appeared in a more subtle fashion.  Some schools, businesses and gated communities ban the flying of the American flag even on the Fourth of July.  Some schools along the southern border fly the Mexican flag on the same pole as the American flag to acknowledge the majority nationality on their campuses.  During the holidays, employees in some quarters are forbidden to greet customers with “Merry Christmas” , and are told to use “Happy Holidays” so as not to offend non-Christians.  Reference to “American exceptionalism” once carried a sense of pride with an invitation to enjoy, protect, and share its unique formula for freedom and liberty.  Now it is viewed as a shameful display of presumptive arrogance and excessive bias against other nations.  The actions and communications that belittle American culture and history are continuing.  They are contributing factors to weaken the people so they may be more easily controlled.

Next week we will look at how socialist movements are continuing to try to control American citizens.  Any excuse is acceptable in this effort.  We have seen how a virus can be used to close churches.  We have seen how church leadership that takes a stand for freedom of religion have ended up under arrest and led from the church in handcuffs.  We need to be reminded that going to a church service is a personal choice and not one to be left up to a government official.
