Politics and the Church – The Church and the Liberal / Progressive / Communist Threat [Part 7]

Dialectical Materialism is an evolutionary philosophy.  By Communist theory new forms in nature are not the result of gradual change but that quantitative multiplication builds up the momentum for a ‘leap’ in nature which produces a change or a new species.  The Communist believes that incidental to one of these leaps, the phenomenon of consciousness emerged.  The creature became aware of the forces which were playing upon it.  Eventually a higher form of life appeared with a developing capacity to work with these forces and arrange them in associations.  Thus the mind emerged as an intelligent, self-knowing, self-determining quality in matter.  To the Communist matter is primary, mind is secondary.  Where there is no matter there is no mind…therefore, there can be no soul, no immortality, no God.  This is what we as Christians are dealing with here on earth…some are even buying into it.  I have yet to find where this Communist ‘matter’ comes from.

Through the three laws previously identified, the Dialectical Materialists felt that a great intellectual contribution had been made to man’s understanding of the universe.  Through these three laws they decided they had been shown:

>   Matter is a unity of opposites which create a conflict that make it auto-dynamic and self-energizing; therefore matter does not need an outside source of power for its manifestation of motion.

>  Through its pattern of constant negation or dying, nature tends to multiply itself and fill the universe with an orderly development or increase without requiring any guiding intelligence.

>  Through the Law of Transformation matter is capable of producing new forms without the need of any creative or directing power outside of itself.

Engels boasted that be discovery of these laws “the last vestige of a Creator external to the world is obliterated.” [Engels, Friedrich, Anti-Duhring, page 18]   From this summary it can be seen that the Communist ‘intellectual’ believes that everything in existence came about as a result of ceaseless motion among the forces of nature.  Everything is a product of accumulated accident.  There is no design.  There is no law.  There is no God.  There is only matter and force in nature.  The Communist ‘philosopher’ teaches that man is a graduate animal…an accident of nature like all other forms of life.  Since man has the highest intelligence in existence, this makes him the god of the universe.  To the Communist God is a myth and the Bible is of no use in directing man’s actions.  A leading Communist, Ludwig Feuerbach, had this in mind when he said: “The turning point of history will be the moment man becomes aware that the only God of man is man himself.”  This is one reason why the church cannot ignore the politics involved in our national leadership.  If the Communist agenda gets into power one of its main targets will be Christianity and the church.

This will account for the almost passionate zeal of Communist leaders to destroy all forms of religion and the worship of God.  Lenin declared: “We must combat religion…this is the ABC of materialism, and consequently of Marxism.”  Marx, when asked what his objective in life was, answered: “To dethrone God and destroy capitalism!”  How ironic, though, that having denounced God, the scriptures, morals, immortality, eternal judgment, the existence of the spirit and the sanctity of individual human life, that the dialectical materialists turned to the worship of themselves.

With man supposedly having the highest intelligence in existence, then it was his manifest duty to remake the world, or so Marx professed.  This task was the inescapable responsibility of the Communist leaders since they are the only ones who have a truly scientific understanding of social and economic progress.  Both Marx and Engels accepted the fact that the remaking of the world will have to be a cruel and ruthless task and that it will involve the destruction of all who stand in the way.  This is necessary to permit the Communist leadership to wipe out the social and economic sins of human imperfection in one clean sweep and then gradually introduce a society of perfect harmony which will allow all humanity to live scientifically, securely, and happy during all future ages. (I can only ask each reader how this has worked out in countries it has been tried in?)

The founders of Communism first realized they would have to develop a whole new approach to morals and ethics for their followers.  In Lenin’s words: “We say that our morality is wholly subordinated to the interests of the class struggle of the proletariat.” [Lenin, V.I., Religion, page 47].  This is to say that whatever tends to bring about the Communist concept of material betterment is morally good, and whatever does not is morally bad.  Said in another way…the end justifies the means.  By Communist agenda it is not wrong to cheat, lie, violate oaths or even destroy human life if it is for a ‘good’ cause.

In today’s society who is best equipped to stand up against such an agenda?  The actions of some of our politicians make even political counter-action questionable.  I believe that this is a phase of politics that the church must become involved with even if ‘politics doesn’t belong in the church’.  If not the church then who or what?  Next week we will take a look at the Communist approach to solving the world problems.  Maybe if they would quit causing many of them that would help.
