Keep in mind this was said 73 years ago … a quote from 1944:
Norman Matton Thomas was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US said this in a 1944 speech: “The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.” If you are not concerned, you’re not listening!
Today, after the spread of communism has slaughtered an estimated 150 million people, it now threatens to expand its consuming global reach. Understanding that the word ‘communism’ brings much concern to people in parts of the world, the movement has chosen to tone down its title to words that can sound much less threatening…’liberalism’, ‘progressivism’.
We might start this series with the definitions of ‘liberalism’ and ‘progressivism’. On the surface they seem very societal friendly but as we shall find out that is just the way for the ‘camel to get his nose under the tent’.
‘Liberalism’ – advocating tolerance; broad mindedness; favoring reform or progress
‘Progressivism’ – advocating moving forward; continuing by successive steps; favoring progress or reform
At initial consideration these words seem rather positive in nature. But then we must remember that ‘tolerance’, ‘broad mindedness’, ‘reform’, ‘progress’, and ‘moving forward’ mean different things to different people.
In 1958 W. Cleon Skousen wrote a book titled The Naked Communist: Exposing Communism and Restoring Freedom. Skousen had studied communism and its ruthless expansion around the world for several decades. Confusion over the movement’s ultimate goals, and the philosophies and theories drove it into popularity. Many fell for its attractiveness. But some found out too late just what it had to offer and it was not pretty. It has destroyed many countries and in the United States it is trying to destroy the American family and to destroy our Judeo Christian values and morality. The church is the enemy of communism and a church that avoids politics is an enemy easily defeated. Oh, the church won’t go away, it will just not be the church we know today. It will have to meet in secret with guards to watch for intruding ‘law enforcement’. In 1961, Skousen added to his book 45 Communist Goals that laid out the steps aimed at ruining the culture of America. Their purpose was to abolish the Constitution and turn the United States into the “fold” of Marx’s theoretical one-world government. As of 2017, all but one of these 45 goals had been reached. These are the same goals that have wrecked hundreds of millions of lives over the past century.
It is a terrible and awesome thing when a man sets out to create all other men in his own image. The image he hoped to construct was a great human colossus with Karl Marx as the brain and builder and all other men serving him as the ears and eyes, feet and hands, mouth and gullet. One does not have to be exposed to the Word of God for long to know that this is contrary to the will of God. Since the church preaches principles that do not support Marx’s goals it can be seen that the church can easily become the enemy…one that needs to be eliminated. Marx surveyed the world and dreamed of the day when the whole body of humanity could be forced into a gigantic social image which conformed completely to Marx’s dream of a perfect society.
Two things were required to achieve his goal. First, the total annihilation of all opposition…this includes the church, the downfall of all existing governments…we see this effort in place today, and the destruction of all economies and all societies. The second thing he needed was a new kind of human being…we see that being worked on in today’s schools and universities. He wanted a race of men who would no longer depend upon free will, ethics, morals or conscience for guidance. Whether he knew it or not, Marx was setting out to create a race of human beings being conditioned to think like criminals. Today this breed of criminally conditioned man walks the earth in sufficient numbers to conquer countries or continents, to change laws and boundaries, to decree war or peace. He might be called ‘Homo-Marxian’…the Marxist Man. He does not respond the way normal people expect.
The Marxian Man has reduced his thinking to the lowest common denominator of values taken from nature in the raw. He lives exclusively by the jungle law of selfish survival. Being without morals, he approaches all problems in a direct, uncomplicated manner. Self-preservation is given as the sole justification for his own behavior, and “selfish motives” or “stupidity” are his only explanations for the behavior of others. With Homo-Marxian the signing of fifty-three treaties and subsequent violation of fifty-one of them is not hypocrisy but strategy. Marxian Man has convinced himself that nothing is evil which answers the call of expediency. He has released himself from all confining restraints of honor and ethics which mankind has previously tried to use as a basis for harmonious human relations. He has an insatiable appetite to bring all things under his domination. He believes that since Homo-Marxian is the most advanced type of man, he must accept the responsibilities of a supreme being.
Many non-Marxist have been caught in the emotional tide of this ideological fantasia and have allowed themselves to be carried along in the current toward the shores of what they hoped would be a promised land of manmade godliness. Marxian Man makes no secret of his ultimate objectives. He is out to rule the world and remove all opposition. He must be satisfied with one chunk at a time. He has adopted an orderly “time-table of conquest” which he is following with a deadly fixation. According to Communist prophecy, time is running out for the free world. This dilemma leaves the unconquered portion of humanity with only three possible courses of future action:
> They can meekly capitulate .
> They can try to co-exist.
> They can set about to pull the blustering bully down.
There is only one option for our society to choose and that option will require participation by the church. It is the only choice that the law of survival allows. Capitulation and co-existence will lead to the failure of Christianity as we know it today. God can give us the knowledge and strength to win this battle but we must be ready to take a stand and the church must take up a leadership role.
So how did this hazard to mankind come about? What conditions allowed this satanic force to come to the forefront of society? Next week we will start to take a look at those who became leaders in trying to devalue man and replace God as the one to rely on. It has been a slow but steady process and many lives have been lost along the way. If the people and the church don’t know and acknowledge the enemy, we could find ourselves a victim of our failures. It would not be the first time this has happened in history.
