For the next few weeks we will address methods that are being used to undermine the principles on which this nation was founded. We like to think that communism ended with the demise of the Berlin wall and the failure of the USSR. As with the early attempts at communism in the mid 1800’s, communists do not go away, they just reorganize. Today communists have come to realize that the ‘term’ turns many off to its goals, so the movement just changes its name…liberals, progressives, socialists. The goals and tactics are still the same, just dressed up in a way that makes them look to be compassionate. For communism to succeed three events must happen…removal of freedom by the government, failure of the Christian church, and the demise of the family unit. We do not have to look far to see that this is already starting to happen. Unfortunately, one of society’s strongest offensive weapons, the Christian church, has fallen for Satan’s divisive methods by questioning the Word of God…the Bible. If the Church doesn’t know where it stands, the foundation will start to crumble. This has already started and unless God’s people decide to take a stand, it will continue. Remember, silence is an action…an action that plays in Satan’s favor.
One of the first steps in the government taking control of the people is identity politics. Just what is this? It is where the citizenry is divided into groups to identify needs, wants, or some mistreatment/discrimination (real or imagined). What is the goal? It is to cause division and strife between the people of the nation. What does the Bible have to say on the subject?:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” [Galatians 3:28].
“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against itself falls.” [Luke 11:17].
The first step in the process of the idolatry of government by the liberal platform is identity politics. Identity politics refers to separating (dividing) people into groups based on needs, wants, perceived discrimination, financial status, education, etc. As an example we see it in today’s politics. If we disagree with the political persuasion of an individual and that person is of a different ‘race’, then it is not policy we are disagreeing with but the color of the person’s skin. How crazy a thought process!? It is a scheme of taking a political stance to target specific groups for their votes. Another example…to obtain the homosexual vote…liberals support gay marriage. To obtain the immigrant vote…liberals do not seem to understand the difference between ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’…they support open borders. Liberals support abortion to obtain some of the female vote…after all, unborn babies cannot vote, at least not yet.
Division is a tactic of Satan. Satan divided heaven causing a great war. In his rebellion against God, he took one third of the angels with him. If Satan would divide heaven, he will try to divide earth. To truly understand how corrupt this ideology is, you only need to look at the liberal platform on funding social programs over funding the defense of the country (military). Defense is a specifically assigned responsibility to the US government. See Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution. Liberals support social programs over the military. Their platform is based on the sheer number of possible votes, not on the Constitution and what is best for America. It is based on what is best for their liberal politics. For example, there are approximately 1.2 million US military personnel and another 800,000 reservist. Adding in military spouses and assuming they all vote ‘conservative’, we are looking at 4 million possible military voters. However, if the US population is 325 million and 10% are considered in poverty, that translates to 32 million possible voters. The position to support social programs is solely based on obtaining the most possible votes. With the government’s primary responsibility according to the US Constitution being national defense and preservation of the country, the liberal position is contrary to the founding document of this nation.
Abraham Lincoln said, “The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate and individual capacities.” William F. Buckley, Jr. even went on to say, “Liberals, it has been said, are generous with other people’s money, except when it comes to questions of national survival when they prefer to be generous with other people’s freedom and security.”
I do not know of any Christian who does not believe that helping those in need is Biblical. Government does have safety nets in place such as unemployment that pays individuals who have lost their jobs for a limited time. However, to provide endless government handouts to healthy and strong individuals that have no impairments to work, is not compassionate and is not Biblical. The Bible says, “For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.” [2 Thessalonians 3:10]. Evaluation of the liberal platform will show that helping people is not the ultimate objective. It is idolatry of government. It is trapping people in the bondage of endless government handouts to trade money for votes. To do this, liberals must first separate people into groups to determine how to trade their ‘handouts’ for votes.
What does the Bible say about how to treat others? Many know this Scripture, even those who do not go the church. What is interesting is that not only does this Scripture address how to treat others (identity politics), it also addresses the idolatry of government. The Bible says, “‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this:’You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” [Mark 12:30-31]. The Bible says the first commandment is that we are to love God (not government) with our hearts, souls, and minds. God comes first. Next, we are to love our neighbors (not divide and separate) as ourselves. God commands that we treat people as we wish to be treated. Liberal policies and platforms, making themselves an idol to the people and dividing people, is in direct contrast to the Word of God. In the Book of James we are told, “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’, you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.” [James 2:8-9]. The Bible is clear, we are to love others as we love ourselves and if we show partiality it is a sin. This is exactly what the liberal platform is doing when it engages in identity politics. It is contrary to the Word of God.
Next week we will look at the commandment Jesus gave us just before He went to the cross. We will see how it is being applied…and not applied…in today’s world. In some cases its application becomes a testimony to hypocrisy.
