Politics and the Church – The Church v. the Angel of Light [Part 1]

This will start a new series that I have found to be very enlightening in doing the research.  Most Christians have heard the term “Angel of Light” applied to Satan.  In this series we will see that the term can be applied to certain people and even political parties…all guided by Satan.  I will not mention anyone or political party specifically but leave it up to the reader to interpret the “Writing on the Wall”.

“Satan hates you and has a terrible plan for your life.  If he cannot succeed in robbing you of eternal life, he will do everything in his power to deprive you of the joy, influence, and rewards that come from serving God in this life.  Since Satan cannot be in more than one place at a time, he has delegated much of his work to ‘demons’ who discourage, distract, and deceive through a variety of means.”  – Dr. Robert Jeffress.  The Bible says that Lucifer in Heaven was the “seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.” [Ezekiel 28:12b]. Lucifer became proud, he desired to be worshiped and rebelled against God.  When he fell he took one third of the angels with him; these fallen angels are demons.  The Bible describes Satan as a spiritual evil being that opposes God.  Because he is not omnipresent he uses demons to do his work on earth and wages war against Christians and possesses non-Christians. How do these demons work?  They use demonic spirits such as fear, lying, jealousy, perversion, bondage, pride, Antichrist, etc. They work together to steal, kill, and destroy, trying to keep believers in bondage rendering them useless in the kingdom of God.  One of the biggest tactics Satan uses against us is deception. He will twist the Word of God to make us believe him in order that we oppose God.  The Bible says Satan will even transform himself into an angel of light to deceive.  He will make evil appear good and good appear evil.  If you look at the characteristics of Satan: desiring to be worshiped, lying, appearing as an angel of light, twisting the Word of God, making good appear evil and evil appear good, leading people into bondage and destruction, you will find that to be an exact description of the liberal movement.  In this series I will not just make unfounded accusations and meaningless commentary, but will provide detailed facts and descriptions of how the demons are working in today’s world.

We will start with the voting habits of the average voter in the United States. The ‘angel of light’ will tell you to vote for the person and not the political party.  Vote for the candidate based on background, qualifications, and accomplishments.  What does this really mean?  It’s an effort to hide the true agenda…steal, kill, and destroy.  The Bible says “He who is not with me, and he who does not gather with Me, scatters abroad.” [Matthew 12:30].  If you are asked if you are a Republican or Democrat and respond that you vote for the person and not the party, you will be pretty safe.  If you state otherwise you will be labeled close minded and intolerant by the liberals.  Once, however, you know the truth of the two political parties, it is a choice between good and evil.  Hopefully this series will help identify the true agendas of the political parties.

The Bible tells us that every person is a sinner.  All have sinned in the past and will sin in the future.  The definition of sin is an offense against religious or moral law.  The Bible says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”  [Romans 3:23].  If every person is a sinner, how is one person any better than another?  The Bible says “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”  [Luke 16:15].  Our public has experienced several people of impeccable reputations to fail in life…Bill Cosby, OJ Simpson, former president Bill Clinton, married vice president candidate John Edwards, pastors Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Baker, just to name a few.  Former President Jimmy Carter had an impeccable reputation but went down in history as one of our worse presidents while General George Patton had numerous personal flaws but was known as a great American leader.  How about a person who had a failed business, filed bankruptcy, and had a nervous breakdown.  Doesn’t sound like a very worthy candidate for president.  Well, that describes Abraham Lincoln, one of America’s greatest presidents.  How about a person who graduated from medical school, worked as an army doctor, spoke several languages, and had never been divorced?  Sounds like a pretty good candidate for president?  That person is Bashar al-Assad  of Syria, one of the world’s worse dictators.

Failure is not an end.  All people sin, and all people have successes and failures.  It comes with life.  Failing comes with trying. Some of the greatest lessons that can be learned come from failing, sometimes even more so than succeeding.  Failure shows where you need to improve and where your weaknesses are.  You will fail.  Hopefully you will learn from your failures.  Many people have had great success even after great failures.  Some in church leadership need to understand this.  In the last election for president, Donald Trump’s opposition focused on his failed business ventures despite his worldwide real estate empire.  There is no one who is going to be right or succeed 100% of the time and never make a mistake.  Abraham Lincoln said, “My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.”  The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but rising again after you fall.  The Bible says, “For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again.” [Proverbs 24:16].  A man who is afraid to risk failure seldom has to face success.

Principles are defined as fundamental truths that serve as the foundation for a system of beliefs. “Principles are rules or laws that are permanent, unchanging, and universal in nature.” – Stephen R. Covey.  A person’s principles, what they stand for, is of utmost importance when determining which candidate to vote for.  How is this to be known?  In an election, it would be the platform of the party they represent. A candidate representing a political party, represents that party’s platform. A candidate who had a failed business, had several marriages, and may not have graduated from college representing a party with a platform against slavery is far better to support than a candidate who runs a million dollar business, graduated from Harvard, and represents a political party with a platform in support of slavery.

You cannot believe everything you read or hear.  The platform of a political party can deceive you with rhetoric and lies.  The platform can declare everything they are doing is for good, when it is not.  If a party’s platform, statements and actions, is not in alignment with the Word of God, it is meant for harm and it is destructive.  Those who are opposed to God (aligned with Satan), do not have the truth in them.

He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”  [ John 8:44].  This is what Jesus had to say about Satan.

Next week we will look at how a political party can twist God’s Word to fit its agenda.  This will show just how important frequent exposure and study of the Word of God is.  Satan can make evil look good and twist God’s Word to do so.
