Politics and the Church – The Politics of God [Part 7]

Last week we saw what can happen when “man’s politics” takes priority over “God’s politics”.  The phases of life become something to tolerate once the ‘pleasure’ is removed.  For a Christian, death is the ultimate reward for a life of service and faith in God.  It is the ultimate entry into the Kingdom established for those who have given their life to God through His Son, Jesus. To the ‘godless’, death is the solution to situations that do not offer pleasure or material satisfaction.  And when it comes to death as a cure-all for human problems, the ‘godless’ have only scratched the surface.  Consider a few more examples:

*   Many environmentalists today believe that human activity represents the gravest threat to the planet.  One of their solutions to reduce that threat…abortion and euthanasia.  In 2017, Michael Brune, the executive director of the Sierra Club, stated that abortion is an essential tool in protecting the environment from the “threat of overpopulation”.  [Thomas D. Williams,”Sierra Club Chief: Abortion Is Key to Sustainable Population”, Breitbart, February 3, 2017].  Might a board somewhere determine that your life is no longer contributing to the ‘health’ of the earth and schedule you for ‘removal’?

*   In the United Kingdom, Lord Shinkwin…who is disabled…gave a stirring speech in the House of Lords, where he talked about the disturbing trends in abortion law on the grounds of “disability”.  He said that the ‘writing was on the wall’ for people like him.  People with congenital disabilities are facing extinction.  If those people were animals, they might qualify for protection as an endangered species.  But only being a human does not qualify one.  [Bre Payton,”A Disabled Lawmaker Speaks Out About Abortion: ‘People Like Me Are Facing Extinction'”, Federalist, January 30, 2017].

*   There is a strong push by euthanasia advocates to stop spoon-feeding Alzheimer’s patients if they “requested that” in advance.  Peter Singer, a well-known atheist and professor of bioethics…makes you wonder what he knows about ethics…at Princeton University, believes that doctors should be permitted to lethally inject Alzheimer’s patients, even if they never asked to be killed…because they qualify as “non-persons”.  Mr. Singer has been a champion of the idea of full moral status being granted only to those things which satisfy the criteria of ‘personhood’.  In his mind those with dementia are disqualified.  [Stephen W. Smith, End of Life Decisions in Medical Care: Principles and Policies for Regulating the Dying Process, Cambridge University Press, 2012, pg.27].  Note, however, that when it came down to Mr. Singer’s own mother’s battle with dementia, he was willing to spend thousands of dollars to care for her.  Is this an example of a policy being good for others but not for the policy maker?  Do we see such instances in ‘man’s politics’ today?

These are just a few of the latest developments in our “culture of death”.  They just may be the firstfruits of what is to come.  After all, if human beings are no more than disposable commodities, abortion, euthanasia, and other methods of killing can be justified for any reason at all…including helping to alleviate overpopulation, immigration, poverty, homelessness, child abuse, and problems concerning race relations.  Looking back to the older and bolder ‘godless’ of the past. They were not afraid to speak their mind or to offend anyone.  Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, said in her book, Woman and the New Race: “The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it”.  [Margaret Sanger,”Woman and the New Race, New York, Truth Publishing Company, 1920, pg.63].  She also laid out the following objectives in an article called “America Needs a Code for Babies”.  Here’s just a sampling of her proposed codes:

Article 1.   The purpose of the American Baby Code shall be to provide for a better distribution of babies…and to protect society against the propagation and increase of the unfit…

Article 4.   No woman shall have the legal right to bear a child, and no man shall have the right to become a father, without a permit…

Article 6.   No permit for parenthood shall be valid for more than one birth.

[Margaret Sanger,”America Needs a Code for Babies”, American Weekly, March 27, 1934]

Ms. Sanger did not stop at just eliminating the ‘undesirable’.  Her magazine’s slogan was “No God, No Masters”.  Her ‘politics’ put man in charge of establishing an ideal human race.  An early proponent of eugenics…the science of “improving” the human population by controlled breeding (apparently Hollywood missed her lesson on controlled breeding) for the purpose of increasing the occurrence of “desirable” characteristics and decreasing the “negative” traits of people, Ms. Sanger fell right in line with one of the Nazis’ favorite fields of study.  In her book The Pivot of Civilization, she wrote that handicapped people, including the blind, deaf, dumb, mute, insane, and epileptic, represented the “dead weight of human waste”. [Margaret Sanger,”The Pivot of Civilization, New York, Brentano’s Publishers, 1922, pg112]. Birthing permits would be issued to only those with favorable progeny traits.  The whole dysgenic population (people with bad genes) would have its choice of segregation or compulsory sterilization.  [Margaret Sanger,”My Way to Peace”, speech to New History Society, January 17, 1932].

I was hoping I could move on to another conflict of ‘man’s politics’ and the ‘politics of God’ but there is more that needs to be brought out.  What I am finding is a glaring example of what can and does happen when the Church divorces itself from the society established by man…’man’s politics’.  Once death is established as a way to ‘improve life’ the flood gates will open and those ‘quiet Christians’ will only be able to sit back and wonder what happened.  It won’t be a first time event.  God’s people in the promised land let it happen numerous times and paid a dear price.  While the ‘godless’ of years ago did not concern themselves with offending anyone, today they are just as active but cloaked with nice, humane sounding terms while their evil plans are carried out.  More next week on Planned Parenthood’s attack on a race of Americans.  And remember, as tax payers we are funding much of this deplorable activity…’man’s politics’.
