Captain Charles Robert Munsey Jr. , United States Navy (Retired)
Charles Robert Munsey Jr., or Bob as known by most, was born to Charles and Willie Maxine Munsey in Bluefield, West Virginia in 1945, and died on 8 December, 2023 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fl.
He joined the Navy while still enrolled in Highschool at Granby High School in Norfolk, VA where he obtained a presidential nomination to the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1968. After graduation, he continued his 29 years of service in the United States Navy and retired as the rank of Captain. Ship deployments include USS W C Lawe, USS Franklin D Roosevelt, USS Midway and the USS Dwight D Eisenhower where he ended his career at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
He then retired in Virginia Beach, VA where after he survived his wife of Breast Cancer in 1996, he moved to his home in Port Saint John, FL in 2003. During his remaining years, he enjoyed attending and volunteering at church, fishing, working on hobbies such as model airplanes and N gauge trains, donating platelets (well over 125 gallons), telling “sea stories”, and working on the restoration of aircraft at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville.
Bob is survived by his sons, Bill, Chad, and daughter Kellye. Bob was a believer in Jesus and was never afraid of death. He wanted all to know that knew and loved him that “May God grant each of you the same peace that He has given to me! Until we see each other again, I remain with Him.”
Funeral Services will be held 15 December 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Port Saint John, Florida. Family will receive visitors at 9:30 AM for viewing, service will begin at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA where he will be next to his love of 20 years married, Rosemary Munsey.
