This week we will start to conclude the series on the liberal/progressive/communist threat to the church and to our society. It is not a threat to be taken lightly. I started this particular series to help bring about awareness to the negative influences that are all around us; influences that would like nothing more than to destroy our society and see our Republic on the ‘trash heap’ of history. Through all of this, I still believe that the church can have a positive influence if it chooses to do so. We each have to ask ourselves what would God have us do? Let’s get started taking a final look at the efforts by Communists to destroy our society and positive influence in the world. Are we waiting on God, or is God waiting on us?
> Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus. People today might define the ‘Communist apparatus’ as the original goals that are kept alive by like-minded Americans seeking bigger government and fewer rights; US Academia pushing the same ‘bigger government’ concept on campuses across the country; and the media becoming a vocal advocate as well. As a result, the government is now the key dispenser of privileges to those it favors and has become the power center that seeks ways to win support from the voters rather than to do what is best for the country or maintaining the Constitution. (Congressional Progressive Caucus, “Progressive Promise”, Cardiff and Klein, Faculty Partisan in All Disciplines: A Voter-Registration Study, Critical Review 2005). This shift in the control of political power might not carry the old names and titles as the ‘Communist apparatuses did in the 1960’s, but the ideas are the same…and just as deadly.
> Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC). You might equate this to eliminating alarm systems in banks. The HUAC was created in 1938 to track subversive activities in the US. In 1969, its name was changed to ‘House Committee on Internal Security’. In 1975, it was abolished altogether. The House Judiciary Committee took on the role of internal security investigations, but it has made its primary focus on the judicial system. The mission and the purpose of the HUAC was overcome by time and by weakened priorities, and for all intents and purposes it has been eliminated. A Communist success!
> Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI. The Bureau remains an integral part of the American justice and investigation system despite the vigorous labors of some people to politicize it or render it impotent. Opponents of the FBI call it the foundation stone of a ‘police state’, a federal apparatus invading and violating civilian rights. Fanning those flames have seen some occasional but serious and blatant lapses in judgement by some individuals in the bureau…leading to fiascoes such as Waco TX, Ruby Ridge, and spy scandals. They became painful lessons learned to make the FBI smarter, better, and more effective. For years a smear campaign against J. Edgar Hoover, long-time director of the FBI, has been infiltrating the American consciousness in rumor mill fashion. This smear campaign was discredited by those closest to him, but the popular perception has not been corrected. (W. Cleon Skousen, J. Edgar Hoover as I Knew Him, 1972). This goal has been somewhat fulfilled.
> Infiltrate and gain control of more unions. The intransigence and radicalization of some unions forced the bankruptcy of major organizations…Hostess, American Airlines, Detroit City, and the automobile industry to name a few. Removing control of private property from the owners and putting it into the hands of the unions…Marx’s proletariat…is a primary tenet of Communism.
> Infiltrate and gain control of big business. The reason for this infiltration is the consolidation of power. More and more of the world is discovering that economic control carries more political weight than the exchange of bullets. While these financial powerhouse alignments may not be touting Communist ideologies, they are achieving the same ends. They are controlling other nations through economic means. It is another route to the same outcome…and another Communist goal achieved.
> Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat. Social agencies and child protection services provide a valuable role in society but giving them police powers has all too often rendered them monsters at the most intimate levels of society. Actions by some have violated human decency, moral law, and have wreaked havoc in heated situations that most police departments are better suited and trained to handle. With the signatures of two doctors, some states permitted a citizen to be arrested, medicated with drugs, and confined without a hearing for a designated time. This goal has been in fulfillment over the years, but it is today being appropriately challenged when abuses take place.
> Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals. In 1962, Attorney General Robert Kennedy ordered the highly decorated Major General Edwin Walker to an insane asylum for a 90-day evaluation because of Walker’s political views that were opposite Kennedy’s. One psychiatrist protested and Walker was released after five days. In another situation, Actor Sean Penn called for conservatives (Tea Party members) to be forcibly institutionalized by executive order. He claimed that there was a mental health problem in Congress. (Cheryl K. Chumley, Sean Penn: Commit tea partiers, Ted Cruz ‘by executive order’, The Washington Times, October 29, 2013). Psychology professor Barry Kuhle at the University of Scranton said, “signs of psychopathology can…be seen among…conservative politicians, especially when you consider a wide range of illness indicators.” (Barry X. Kuhle, Conservatism as a Mental Illness, Psychology Today, June 12, 2012). Professor Nancy Meyer-Emerick, Cleveland State University, created a ‘right wing authoritarian’ (RWA) test to uncover authoritarian tendencies: “Republicans cluster at the high end of the RWA scale whereas Democrats range across the scale.” (Ronald Bailey, Pathologizing Conservatism, reason.com, October 20, 2004). In Psychological Bulletin, four university professors concluded, “The core ideology of conservatism stresses resistance to change and justification of inequality and is motivated by needs that vary situationally and dispositionally to manage uncertainty and threat…” (Political conservatism as motivated social cognition, J.T. Jost, J. Glaser, A.W. Kruglanski, F.J. Sulloway, Psychological Bulletin, May 2003, as referenced in National Center for Biotechnology Information, US National Library of Medicine, PMID: 12784934). Many tools such as these to silence opposing voices became available to politicians and academia when Americans surrendered their best interests to a small cadre of elitists in academia, medicine and politics. As a result, enemies of the Constitution and free speech are fostering their own version of the 1950’s ‘red scare’ with a present-day ‘red-white-and-blue scare.
Next week will start to take a look at what the defenders of liberalism/progressivism/communism must do and say to support their position. Unfortunately, many fall for their justifications and only when it is too late do they realize that they have been ‘okey-doked’.

“The Church is the people. Many of these people gather in buildings called churches, temples, synagogues, homes, etc. It is the people who are threatened by those who hate God and desire to serve Satan.” (Commentary by Bob Munsey)
